Information
ink and tempera on thin cardboard applied to cardboard
24,5 x 35,5 cm
Original cover made by Uderzo for the German magazine MV Comix n. 36 of September 7, 1968, in which the adventure "Asterix the Gladiator" was published in episodes. This work was later used in France as the cover for the coloring book "Asterix: drawing and coloring" published by Dargaud in 1974. Recently used as the cover for the volume "L'art d'Astérix" published in L'Express Hors-Série n. 5 in 2017. Note the restoration of the upper right and lower left corners; in fact, after publication in the magazine MV Comix in 1968, the German publisher cut the unused sections (those without drawings) to incorporate the titles and logos of the cover. Reproduced signature applied later. PROVENANCE: Sotheby's auction "Collection J.–AS Les Grands Maitres De La Bande Dessinée" 24 October 2015, Paris (lot 126).
