Specialist Notes
Facsimile reproduction of one of the oldest and most famous surviving illuminated biblical manuscripts, most likely made in Syria in the 16th century. VI, the code called Genesis of Vienna is a splendid example of the workers of the Byzantine Empire. It consists of 24 folios with naturalistic illustrations typical of contemporary Roman visual art positioned at the base of each page, text made with silver ink in uncial on parchment dyed purple, as for imperial fabrics.
