Cover illustrated in red, black and orange with a constructivist composition by El Lissitzky (Lazar '- or Eliezer - Markovic Lisickij, Pocinok 1890 - Moscow 1941), 3 color plates and 9 in black and white out of text with reproductions of costumes and theatrical sets by Alexandra Exter, Ferdinandoff, P. Kusnetzoff, Alexander Wesnin. Tairov was together with Stanislavsky and Meyerhold the most important exponent of the Russian avant-garde theater. First edition in German of the fundamental theoretical text “A. Zapiski Rezhissera ”[Notes of a theatrical director], written between 1915 and 1920. Second edition.
