Smoothbore, round, 17 mm cal. barrel with mark of the Birmingham test bench at the base, clutch for the bayonet, foresight; tang with rear sight. Percussion lock marked "C&S" under crown and with Piedmontese mark above date "1848". Double lines along the border. Wooden full stock, marked "49" on the side, a not clearly legible stamp on the counterplate side. Brass mounts. Brass-tipped iron ramrod. Socket bayonet marked 'R & WA', '18' and 'AF'.
