dating: 1945 provenance: Japan, Heavy and wide blade, nagasa (length: 25 cm) with hi on both sides and with inscriptions of four kanji on the third side, iron habaki. Nakago mei with two mekugi-ana, with inscription on both sides, on one side date 8 February 1945 and 'Thailand', 'on the battlefield' and 'united Kasuya', on the other side 'Aketo Nakamura', 'Gunji' and kanji for the work of two gunsmiths. Western style Koshirae, ray-skin covered grip with simple, black lacquered, iron fuchi-kashira, on each side a three-flowered mon and a twelve-petalled mon with two different kanji, forming together the word 'Loyalty' (towards the Emperor), all made of silver. Blackened wood saya with black lacquered, iron mounts and a band with suspension ring. Aketo Nakamura (1889 - 1966) was lieutenant general, commanding the 5th Division from 1940, which was part of the Japanese invasion in French Indochina. From January 1943 he had been in command of the 39th army in Thailand until the end of the war.The peculiarity of this tanto is that the general himself worked together with an expert gunsmith on its creation, in fact, the nakago also bears his name next to that of the gunsmith Gunji. length 44.5 cm.
