Information
dating: 1900 - 1940 circa provenance: Ethiopia, Double-edged, counter-curved blade, decorated on both sides with two shells half enriched with raceme engravings. At the tang on one side an inscription in Amharic, on the other a beautiful Lion of Judah surmounted by a dealer's inscription 'N. NACHADURIAN FOURNISSEUR DES M.LE NEGUS NEGUESTI D'ETHIOPIE'. Grip in Bakelite-like material (some missing parts) with smooth, brass cap. Negus Neghesti (NEGUS NEGUESTI) means 'King of the Kings' (i.e. Emperor). The office was held by Haile Selassie from 1930 to 1936 and then again after 1940, when Ethiopia was liberated. length 71 cm.
