dating: Period (1603-1867) provenance: Japan, Made of iron, nade-kaku-gata, niku-bori made of iron and copper, taka-zogan made of gold, silver and copper, katakiri-bori, the front with a monkey in relief with a crescent moon, the back engraved with a pine tree in rain. Mei: Norijuki. Uchi-gaeshi-mimi. Middle Edo period, 18th century. Hamano Norijuki II (1771-1852) was granted the title of master as young as 16.Illustrated and described in Japanese, English and German in 'Tsuba' by Günther Heckmann, H.U.B. Verlag Nürtingen, 1995.
