Information
Brescia
length 95,5 cm.
Iron barrel of round section with flattened sides at the first section and bell-mouthed nozzle. The breech featuring a raised central ring, engraved with floral frame and entirely gold inlaid, including the vent plate. On the back of the barrel, at the powder chamber, an engraved and slightly raised trophy of arms and armor under a canopy, the whole decoration also gold inlaid. Then, after cartridge, a slightly raised rib, decorated at both ends with engraved decorations and also gold inlaid. The remain of the barrel surface still partially keeps its original blueing. The tang is also engraved, bearing a finial-like ornament (shaped as a pinecone?) with the same decoration found at the beginning of the rib; here too the entire surface is gold inlaid. The lock with slight traces of finishing, probably original; the cock is of French style, with swan-neck profile, while the convex lock plate featuring the maker’s signature “Frachetti e Minelli”, with outlines on the borders and small friezes, leaves and rocaille motifs. Working mechanism. Stock of briarwood with fore-end probably replaced during the period of use, provided with folding butt at the grip, complete with well-functioning release button and hook. Along the top of the grip there are several silver-colored metal plaques, shaped and engraved with rocaille and floral motifs. Iron mounts with traces of blueing en suite with the barrel. On the butt plate, the monogram “P” surmounted by a count’s crown. The side plate is provided with belt hook. Horn-tipped ramrod with cartridge extractors, with remains of blueing.
