Round and disc-shaped, made of wood, entire outer surface covered with leather (missing parts), decorated with an elegant intertwining pattern of wavy lines connected by rhomboid elements, with rivets at the corners and additional nail-works embellishing both the central area and the border; with four semi-spherical brass studs at the cardinal points of a circular sector, central brass plate dominated by a large convex stud surmounted by an iron cusp. Some missing parts and signs of time on the back side, with remains of leather handles and remains of a label from an old collection.

Specialist Notes

See a series of similar shields in Ancient Scottish Weapons by James Drummond, R. S. A, Edinburgh & London 1881. Two other 18th-century shields are in the royal collection at Windsor Castle.
