A styrian halberd, Fine del XVI Secolo

height 255 cm.
Long straight squared-shaped cusp; concave axe with piercings and beak-shaped humps, engraved with crescent-moon motifs. Straight beak pointed downward, with a row of perforations at the base. On one side of the beak, clearly visible, the maker's mark (a circle divided into three segments, each with a central dot). Short side straps of slightly differing lengths. Signs of use and age. Wooden haft (repaired), of non-recent manufacture. The base of the straps not visible, it is covered by a small textile tassel applied later.

Specialist Notes

Most probably the work of the workshop of Pankraz Taller, supplier to the Graz arsenal from 1575 to 1615. See an example in the collection of Schloss Tirol (inv. no. 700390) bearing the same mark, likewise attributed to Pankraz Taller. See also a specimen
