Joe Montana , born Joseph Clifford Montana Jr. on June 11, 1956, in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, is a former American football player, considered one of the best quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League (NFL).

In 1979, Montana was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the NFL Draft. He quickly became the team's starting quarterback, leading them to four Super Bowl victories (1981, 1984, 1988, 1989) and being named MVP of the game on three of those occasions.

Montana retired from professional football in 1995. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
