Earvin Johnson Jr., better known as Magic Johnson (Lansing, August 14, 1959), is a former American basketball player, considered one of the greatest players in basketball history. He won five NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, gold at the 1992 Olympics and the 1992 Tournament of the Americas with the US Dream Team, as well as an NCAA title with Michigan State in 1979. He was three times voted NBA MVP and NBA Finals player. His name appears in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and in the list of the 50 greatest players in NBA history. His jersey number 32 was officially retired by the Lakers on February 16, 1992. In 1991 he revealed to the world that he had contracted the HIV virus.
