Captain Kirk's uniform, autographed by William Shatner, star of the Star Trek television series, and certified by the JSA. Captain James T. Kirk's uniform, designed by Bill Theiss for Star Trek: The Original Series (TOS), is one of the most recognizable costumes in science fiction. Kirk's uniform consisted of a colorful top (initially velour) paired with dark pants. His shirt (also called a tunic) was yellow (or gold). This color identified the Command Division, which included the Captain, Helmsman Sulu, and Officer Chekov. The rank of Captain was indicated not only by color, but also by insignia (gold stripes) on the collar or sleeves. The uniform also featured the iconic Starfleet symbol (the star-shaped lightning bolt for the Command Division) on the chest.
