Shaq's Lakers era (1996-2004) is defined not only by his destructive force around the basket, but also by his turbulent yet unstoppable partnership with rising young star Kobe Bryant. Under legendary coach Phil Jackson, the combination of O'Neal's physical power and Bryant's perimeter lethality produced a virtually unbeatable team. The culmination of this partnership was the legendary "Three-Peat"—winning three consecutive NBA championships: 2000, 2001, and 2002. In all three of these triumphs, Shaquille O'Neal was named NBA Finals MVP (Most Valuable Player). Shaq was inducted into the Lakers Hall of Fame, and his number 34 jersey was retired by the Lakers, honoring a time when "The Big Aristotle" was the most dominant center in basketball.
