At the center of the composition the Prophet Elijah is shown in the desert, clad in the prophetic mantle and fed by ravens.

On the left side appear two episodes: above, Elijah praying to God; below, the angel appearing to the sleeping prophet before the ascent to Mount Horeb.
On the right unfolds the story of Elijah and Elisha: once Elisha had become the prophet’s disciple, he accompanied him on his journey; to cross the Jordan River, Elijah struck the waters with his mantle, dividing them. Immediately afterwards, the Lord took Elijah up in a chariot of fire drawn by fiery horses. As he ascended into heaven, the prophet left his miraculous mantle to Elisha.
