Information
The icon depicts the miraculous image of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow,” glorified in 1688 after the intercession and miraculous healing of the sister of Patriarch Joachim. During the 18th century, the iconography developed numerous variants, influenced also by Catholic elements. The common feature is the representation of the afflicted turning their prayers to the Mother of God, their protectress and patroness, while angels sent by her bring consolation.
