Information
pencil, ink and watercolor on thin cardboard
37 x 21 cm
Original illustration made by Bonzagni for the first edition of the novel "Casa di pazzi casa di santi" by Virgilio Brocchi, published in the weekly magazine Il Mondo (Ed. Sonzogno) on 16 September 1917, later reprinted in volume by Treves in 1919 with the title "Secondo il cuor mio". Bonzagni, at Brocchi's request, created twenty-four illustrations to accompany the novel; the one presented here was the one used as the cover. Bonzagni was among the signatories of the first edition of the Manifesto of Futurist Painters (1910). Having distanced himself from the group, he turned his attention to reality, which he observed with a touch of irony. His numerous graphic works were also influenced by his knowledge of the magazine Ver Sacrum and by his contact with the secessionist culture exhibited at the Biennale in those years. Signed.
