Daily comic strip from September 17, 1934, for "Secret Agent X-9." In response to the overwhelming success of Dick Tracy, publisher William Randolph Hearst personally hired the greatest hard-boiled writer of the period, Dashiell Hammett, who was paired with a very young but promising star of American comics, twenty-four-year-old Alex Raymond, to create what would become a legendary character in his genre: Secret Agent X-9. A very rare strip from the second narrative cycle of the series, entitled "Mystery of the Silent Guns," in which Hammett was still writing alongside a thriving Raymond. Signed and dated.
