Original artwork made by Luzzati for the theatrical production he curated of the comic operetta in two acts "Candide" by Leonard Bernstein, based on the novel of the same name by Voltaire, staged at the Saint Louis Opera in 1994. The artwork was published four years earlier in the volume "Candide" by the Nuages publishing house in 1990. Twice nominated for an Oscar for the animated films The Thieving Magpie (1964) and Pulcinella (1973), Luzzati is one of the most important set designers and illustrators of the second half of the 20th century, an interpreter of a skilled and cultured figurative culture, capable of masterfully using all sorts of materials: from terracotta to collages of paper and fabrics composed to construct sketches of scenes, costumes, theatrical productions. The richness of his fantastic world, the immediacy and expressiveness of his very personal style, have made him one of the most loved and admired artists of our time. "In front of his scenography one almost always has the impression of ending up hands, feet and thoughts inside a dream." Attached is the certificate of authenticity of the Nuages gallery of Milan signed by Cristina Taverna. Signed.
