The painting is accompanied by an expertise by Ferdinando Bologna, dated 12 November 1977, which attributes it to Riccardo Quartararo (Sciacca 1443 - Palermo 1506).
The work was part of a polyptych, two other fragments of which, depicting Saint Monica and Saint James the Greater , were auctioned at Finarte, Rome, 16 October 2007, lot 503.
