Il dipinto offerto nel lotto appartiene al filone di raffigurazioni allegoriche e moraleggianti, che dal Rinascimento in poi, sono tipiche della pittura veneziana. In particolare le due figure, identificabili probabilmente con La Fortezza e la Verità (o Venere) sono da intendersi come una sorta di Vanitas, che porta lo spettatore a riflettere sull'importanza della virtù e della rettitudine per tenere a freno i desideri e gli istinti.

Il dipinto trova un confronto con quello di Antonio Balestra raffigurante la Fortezza e la Verità, conservato a Pommersfelden, Castello di Schoenborn (cfr. L. Ghio e E. Baccheschi, Antonio Balestra, in I Pittori bergamaschi, Bergamo 1989, p. 256 fig.3).
