The painting is accompanied by an expertise by Dr. Maria Silvia Proni, dated 2 October 2004, and by Professor Ferdinando Arisi.
In pendant with the next lot, the painting can be dated, according to Arisi, to 1710. It depicts a subject dear to Cipper, namely a hunter, but the young man, the protagonist of the scene, does not seem to be a model replicated in other paintings by the Austrian master, even though it was common practice in "genre painting" to reproduce the same iconographic repertoires and the same figures. For this reason, Arisi suggests the possibility that it is a portrait and, as such, attributes to the painting a role of particular interest for the painter's production.
