In precedenza attribuite al Crivellone (G. De Logu, 1931, p. 175), nel 1973 le due tele furono restituite alla mano del Crivellino da Arisi (F. Arisi, 1973, p. 306) che con la medesima attribuzione le pubblicò nuovamente nel 2004, includendole nella monografia Crivellone e Crivellino (F. Arisi, 2004, p. 461 n. 105 e 106). Si tratta di composizioni tipiche del Crivellino, eseguite nel decennio tra il 1720 e il 1730.
In una delle due opere protagonista è un cane che, al centro della scena, sorveglia la cacciagione; alle sue spalle, alla base dell'albero, gli strumenti del cacciatore e, a fare da sfondo, uno scorcio di cielo azzurro che risalta tra gli addensamenti di nuvole bianche. Nell'altra lo schema centrale è ripetuto in modo analogo: questa volta, però, con un gatto trionfante su una natura morta di pesci e con l'aggiunta di un cane - che sembra recuperato dai repertori dello Snyders - che con irruenza, da sinistra, entra nella scena minacciando il felino; dietro, come una quinta teatrale, è inserita una rete da pesca che filtra la luce crepuscolare del cielo sullo sfondo.
