Il dipinto di San Simone a mezzo busto è tratto dal prototipo a figura intera di Carlo Maratta per i Principi Barberini conservato a Roma, Galleria Barberini, come da comunicazione orale della dottoressa Stella Rudolph alla proprietà.
E' stata avanzata un'ipotetica attribuzione a Ludovico Gimignani (Roma 1643 - Zagarolo 1697) su basi stilistiche.
