Il disegno offerto nel lotto è uno studio preparatorio per gli affreschi perduti nella Chiesa di San Francesco a Palermo, realizzati nel 1630. Un disegno similare al nostro, dove San francesco appare in preghiera accanto alla Vergine, è conservato a Palermo, Galleria Regionale della Sicilia (G. di Stefano, Pietro Novelli il Monrealese, Palermo 1989, cat. 120).
