Specialist Notes
A saint particularly venerated in Palermo, Rosalia was invoked as the architect of the end of the plague of 1624-25, after her relics, enclosed in a stalagmite on Mount Pellegrino, were discovered and brought to the city. On January 22, 1625, her bones were solemnly exposed, and the epidemic ended. Of particular interest is the panel with the cathedral's high altar, which features a map of the city at its center: a cartographic document of extraordinary relevance and precision.
