Specialist Notes
A rare and significant work focusing on the theme of the recognition of nobility within the Order of Malta, approached with meticulous attention to ceremonial and legal details.
Rogadeo expresses an authentically aristocratic vision of nobility, inspired more by the model of an oligarchic republic than by the monarchy. The work had a lasting influence: it was used by the Republic of San Marino to assert its ennobling power until the abolition of the nobility system in 1980, and it still retains legal and symbolic value within the Order of St. John of Malta for assessing the noble lineage of certain members.
