La Marra, with a plate outside the text and some engravings in the text, some browning, light foxing, contemporary leather binding, gilt titles within tags on the spines, red edges, some losses on the spine, minor defects. Paper tag from the Sommi Picenardi Library on the back covers.
Specialist Notes
A rare first edition of the archaeological and antiquarian work by Martorelli, a Neapolitan scholar celebrated by Metastasio as the "oracle of our century." A prominent figure in the intellectual landscape of his time, he cultivated relationships with illustrious scholars and archaeologists, including J. Winckelmann.
