Information
Naples, Vincenzo Mazzola - Vocola, 1779. In 8°. Woodcut headpieces, tailpieces, and initials, scattered foxing, contemporary half-leather and marbled paper binding, gilt title on the smooth spine with decorations, minor defects.
Specialist Notes
First and rare edition of the grammatical and historical treatise on the language written by the author of the famous Della Moneta. In this work, Abbot Galiani, an economist and Enlightenment thinker, seeks to demonstrate how the Neapolitan language was closer to the early Italian literary vernacular than the Tuscan linguistic area, and therefore hoped that Neapolitan would become the official language of the Southern Kingdom.
