Information
Naples, Gervasi, [1806?] Oblong folio (50x35 cm). Copper-engraved frontispiece, frontispiece with vignette, with 27 plates engraved by Aloja and dated between 1804 and 1806 (including the View of Pozzuoli detached), captions in Italian and French, light foxing and browning on some leaves, this copy contains two additional loose leaves with the frontispiece and the frontispiece, reinforcement on the internal margin, half-leather rear binding with corners and marbled paper, gold decorations on the spine, minor defects. Paper bookplate on the inside pastedown.
Specialist Notes
A beautiful collection of engravings by Aloja based on life drawings by Fergola, published by Fergola and distributed by Gervasi. This is a unique example because it is part of a limited edition for Mr. Ange de Cazzaiti Shah Bender, as evidenced by the dedication on the title page and the addition of a frontispiece on a painting by Fischett depicting Glory and a putto holding a coat of arms with a view of Vesuvius at its feet.
