Specialist Notes

Original edition of this history of Ruvo in Puglia , the first history of the city written at the time of the 19th-century revival of municipal historiography, published in the year of the death of its author, Giovanni Jatta, who also discusses his own rivalry with the Carafa family in a future record of his legal action against the Carafas, and which not coincidentally ends with the praise of Domenico Cotugno, while with ostentatious contempt the author had recalled another illustrious Ruvese, the magistrate Orazio Rocca, guilty in his eyes of having done nothing to free his homeland from the baronial arrogance, despite being a persecuted member of the Carafas.
