Signature engraved on the base: S. Canevari
Between 1929 and 1931, Silvio Canevari made six marble sculptures for the Stadio dei Marmi in Foro Mussolini. His early death in August 1931 made it impossible to complete a further group of sculptures designed for the same location. The project for this group consisted of: two groups of wrestlers, a soccer player, a rower, and a discus thrower. The two preparatory versions in glazed plaster for the discus thrower and the rower are presented and proposed here.
