Obverse: Coat of arms with an oblong and oval plaque, with a head at the top, palms and festoons at the sides, surmounted by a tiara and crossed keys with a twisted cord and a bow; - Reverse: View of the Vatican Basilica: at the bottom at the sides, the initials IH (Giovanni Hamerani, engraver). At the bottom, the coat of arms of the President of the Mint, Monsignor Ferdinando Raggi.

As quoted by Muntoni, the reversed legend is taken from Matthew XVI, 18 and translates as “the gates of hell will not prevail” with reference to the war against the Turks.
