The reverse of this osella is inspired by the arrest of a Venetian nobleman who had served as ambassador to the imperial court in Vienna, where he had compromised himself. Transferred as a bailo to Constantinople to avoid imprisonment, he was arrested, at the request of the imperial ambassador, as he was about to embark. The investigation against him led to his exoneration. The representation of justice alludes to the Venetian government's desire to observe the rules of law even abroad.
Provenance
Purchased privately by Numismatica Rinaldi in December 1972.
