Specialist Notes
Reference 1897 is one of the most elusive Rolex models ever manufactured, with just a couple of specimens appeared on the international auction market in the past 15 years. Its oversized case was ahead of its times, making the model a true unicorn, but the present piece stands out for its incredibly rare "Papillon" dial. Another example has been sold in 2016 at Christie's for over than Chf 60,000.
