Antique straight blade (late 16th century), of hexagonal section, with fuller at the forte, marked ‘AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA’ and featuring the remains of other small friezes (no longer clearly visible); slight surface pitting. Rectangular ricasso with double hollow on both sides and two deeply stamped Toledo marks ‘T’ and ‘H’; both side surmounted by a small circle. Extraordinary gilded iron hilt with gold and silver decorations. Quillon with cusped wuillon block featuring silver mask surrounded by gold racemes. Straight quillons of rectangular section with palmed and buttoned head; all sides feature hunting scenes with hunters armed holding spears, their hounds and various game such as wild boar, hares, deer, etc. The characters are always made of silver and surrounded by gold racemes. Two arms of the hilt with lower-ring guard enlarged and cusped at the center, a pseudo lower ring-guard connecting the parry arch with the base of the loop-guard; these elements are worked and gilded en suite with the same decorative pattern. The guard is also worked with thickening and cusps in the centre and featuring an additional quillon that starts from the base of the parry quillon and joining the upper segment of the guard.In addition to various animals, birds with outspread wings are featured among the finer decorative elements; the guard terminates in alignment with the quillons. The grip is made of solid iron with a hexagonal section and a balustrade profile; hexagonal ring-nuts, one signed on the three front sides “DIDACVS DE CAJAS FACIEBAD”. The handle featuring mirror images of herons on the front and back, surmounted by a mask and other grotesque decorations above. As in the other parts, the characters are depicted in silver and the racemes surrounding them in gold. The other sides of the handle featuring hunting scenes. The pommel is hexagonal in section, shaped as an inverted pear and worked en suite with the hilt. The outline of the defensive elements of the hilt are all covered in gold leaf; the rear side of the quillons is in dark brown patina. The two quillons on the back are connected to smooth, gilded arms of the hilt.
