27" round barrel with octagonal breech, featuring "COLT'S PT. / 1856" and "ADDRESS COL. COLT / HARFORD CT. U.S.A." markings on the back, with remains of browning, probably antique (about 15%). Cal. 60 (20 gauge). The bore needs cleaning. Lower rib with holes. Five-shot cylinder, featuring remains of patent marking. The Colt patent of 1857 is clearly visible on the right side of the frame. The frame has the serial number "4xx". The trigger guard is small, stamped with some numbers including an "81" and others that are not clearly legible. Working mechanism, three snaps. A guide with fuller is screwed onto the back (possibly to mount a sighting decive?). The butt-plate may have been replaced during use. Made of beautiful marbled walnut wood, with checkered (cracked) grip and non-standard butt-plate, also provided with a primer case compartment at the bottom with white metal gasket and iron cover. White metal muzzle ring for the fore-end, the latter of checkered wood. Pitting, signs of use and time. Some elements of the frame and especially the cartridge rammer with remains of old nickel plating. Iron ramrod, length: 45.3 cm.
