Specialist Notes
A travel guide written by Thomas Roscoe that offers a vivid portrait of the two countries in the early decades of the nineteenth century, immediately after the period of crisis caused by the Napoleonic conflicts that had long limited travel on the continent. This is the first volume of the Landscape Annual series, which continued for another eight years with similar publications also dedicated to Italy, France and Spain. The volume is accompanied by illustrations by Samuel Prout, official painter to the courts of George IV and Queen Victoria.
