Turin, Carlo Grosso, Bookseller in the Contrada del Gallo, undated [but c. 1795]. In 12vo, 48 pp. Vignette on the title page depicting the heroine, light foxing, contemporary rustic cardboard binding with decorations on the spine. Also included in the lot is a copy of the Rusticali of the first three centuries . Venice, Zatta, 1788. Medallion on the title page, wide margins, 9 copper-engraved illustrated headpieces of rustic genre by Zuliani and Daniotto, modern half-parchment binding and title on a tag on the spine.
Specialist Notes
A rare Turin edition of this folk tale, based on the 15th-century French novel , "Pierre de Provence et la belle Maguelonne ," tells the story of Peter of Provence, who sets out for Naples to meet Maghelona, the king's daughter, whose beauty he has heard celebrated. Once in Naples, the two fall in love and decide to leave for Provence. Their journey will be full of adventures and vicissitudes.
