Information
Venice, Rampazetto, 1609. In 2°. Woodcut vignette on the title page, portrait of the author copper-engraved by Kilian on the verso of the a6 sheet, woodcuts in the text depicting plans of fortifications, drawings of architectural details, attack and defense schemes, work tools, book VI with independent title page, light browning, rare foxing, woodworm work on the inside margin of the first quires, quire B detached, margins of pp. 92-93 with slight defects, contemporary parchment binding, spine with 4 raised bands with handwritten title, small loss on the spine, minor defects.
Specialist Notes
Second and final edition of the first organized course on fortification (the first was in 1596). Book VI is added to the text. Lorini, after gaining considerable experience working both in Italy and abroad, became the first engineer of the Venetian Republic, designing, among other things, the famous and imposing fortification of Palmanova.
