Venice, published by Bernardo Giunti, Gio. Battista Ciotti & Compagni, 1611. In 4°. Printer's device on the title page, numerous initials and woodcut headpieces, text in columns. Full parchment binding, gilt title on the spine. Ex libris Marchese Caracciolo.

Specialist Notes

Francesco Bracciolini (1566-1645), a poet born in Pistoia, first served in the retinue of the princes of Sulmona in Naples, then for six years with Cardinal Federico Borromeo in Milan, and finally served as secretary to Maffeo Barberini (who became Pope Urban VIII) in Rome and France. The famous poem concerns the Emperor Heraclius's recapture of the wood of the Cross after it fell into Persian hands.
