Specialist Notes
A rare engraving by Bernardo Daddi (active in the 16th century, probably born around 1512 and died in Rome in 1570), one of the names proposed to identify the so-called "Master of the Dice," an anonymous artist recognizable by the symbol of a letter B engraved on a dice, present in several of his works. Active in Rome between 1530 and 1550, he was an engraver and painter associated with the circle of Marcantonio Raimondi. Over time, he was mistakenly confused with other artists, such as Beatricetto or Bonasone. Some scholars have speculated that he may have belonged to the family of the painter Bernardo Daddi, while others have identified him as Benedetto Verini, perhaps the son—legitimate or otherwise—of Raimondi himself, based on the initials "BV" appearing on some engravings. However, his identity remains uncertain.
