VERY RARE OPERA Libretto from the Brescia premiere, the second after the world premiere at La Scala, with a beautiful dedication.
"The world premiere was one of the most memorable flops in the history of opera: Puccini, the librettists, and Ricordi immediately withdrew the opera. Thus began a long and complex story of subsequent changes, cuts, some additions, and rethinking of the changes. However, the opera was revived a few months after its premiere in Brescia (May 28, 1904) and from then on began its triumphal march throughout the world ." (Puccini Museum, online).
