A friend of Foscolo, Manzoni, and Confalonieri, he also financially supported Italian exiles dedicated to the cause of Italian unification. The letter mentions Leopardi, Manzoni, and others.
"Here, my dear, is another prayer, and for this I pledge all that zeal, even so, to do good. This Manifesto of that unfortunate Leopardi is aimed at procuring the means to live at least for some time in Florence, and not be forced to return to his very ugly Recanati where […] he could physically live for a long time.
