A fine collection of Donizetti memorabilia: a photographic portrait from Bruckmann's Portrait Kollektion , 170 x 112 mm.; a signed autograph letter to Domenico Donzelli, 241 x 185 mm., two pages; another letter with the "Instructions for the Exile of Rome", also addressed to Donzelli, unsigned and undated [but 1840], two pages, 207 x 130 mm.
Specialist Notes
Both of Donizetti's letters are truly interesting. The first, addressed to Donzelli, discusses extensively copyrights, permission to sing arias, projects for La Scala, and more. In the second, Donizetti refers to some changes and adjustments required for the revival of his opera L'Esule di Roma in Bergamo in the summer of 1840, which he recommended to the tenor Domenico Donzelli, who performed the part of Settimio on that occasion.
