Specialist Notes
The Treatise is written in the flowing vernacular of the fourteenth century, with the hymn to Charity borrowed from St. Paul and a thousand examples from practical and daily life: there is no shortage of recipes for swelling, liver care, atmospheric phenomena such as snow, hail, and lightning, all aimed at explaining the beauty and necessity of "Charita" in Christian life.
