Specialist Notes

A rare treatise on the epidemic that struck Naples in 1764 and its lethal effects on the population, written by the renowned scientist Celestino Cominale, author of Anti-Newtonianismi pars prima in qua Newtoni de coloribus systema evertitur (in which he questioned Newton's theory of colors). The "great epidemic of putrid fevers" caused approximately thirty thousand deaths in the Campania region and was eradicated thanks to the concerted efforts of what can be considered one of the first international humanitarian missions, which sent grain supplies to Naples to slow the spread of the "fevers."
