Specialist Notes

First edition of this important and splendid work on Cremona, enhanced by two maps of the city and its surrounding countryside engraved by Davide da Lodi and portraits of the Dukes and Duchesses of Cremona and Milan by Agostino Carracci based on drawings by Antonio Campo, who also created the beautiful frontispiece, the allegory of Cremona, and the vignette depicting the exit of the Carroccio. Under the portrait of Maximilian on page 104, we read: "This effigy is taken from an oil painting by Leonardo da Vinci," a painting now lost.

Brunet I, 1526: «Original and rare edition of an estimated ouvrage»; Cicognara 3977; Choix IV, 4257.
