The young girl represented is the so-called "Bella Rosina", born Rosa Vercellana (1833-1885), at first the mistress and later the morganatic wife of King Vittorio Emanuele II to whom she bore two children.
Much loved by the people but not by the court, Rosa Vercellana, who can be identified in this canvas due to the similarities of the face with photos of the time, is represented here at a young age next to a rose garden and with I wear a rose on my chest and also an umbrella and a sash on my waist, both of the blue color, the Savoy one.
