The drawing is a preparatory study for the altarpiece by Palma il Giovane of the same subject in Venice, Church of the Jesuits.
Professor Michiaki Koshikawa, in a written communication to the owner, confirmed the present attribution, dating the drawing to the late activity of the artist.
